Grab Bag!

* The expression "beating a dead horse" has always struck me as odd. Is the idea that beating your horse to death is a reasonable thing to do, provided that you stop once it expires? Or did there used to be all these dead horses lying around, that only boring people would attack? This is probably Googleable, but who has the time for that... anyway, point is, Mikki Moore sucks.

* An addendum to the three-point discussion. Three-point-attempt-per-jump-shot percentage (does anyone keep track of this?) is a pretty good shorthand test of a team's intelligence; if you know what you're doing, you're going to try to make most of your jump shots worth three points. Through Saturday, 69% of our shot attempts were jumpers, tying us for third in the league behind only the Wizards and Pacers, and yet we rank a bit below average in three-point attempts... only about 30% of the jump shots we take are from beyond the arc. Conversely, about 54% of the jump shots the Magic take are from beyond the arc. We rank in the bottom third of the league in 3PA/JSA (boy, that's not gonna catch on), despite having the world's best three-point shooter and three other marksmen. You rascally old Warriors... you're dumb.

* Some fun '08-'09 stats from Hoop Numbers, the fabulous dorkatorium we looked at recently: C.J. Watson was the second-best player in the league last year at triggering a fast break after grabbing a defensive rebound. As you might imagine, most Warriors rated pretty highly here; Maggette was seventh, Morrow was ninth, and we had seven players rank in the top thirty. The one Warrior who didn't start many breaks off rebounds was, surprisingly, Ronny. Also, Brandan Wright finished second in the league in the rather wacky category of most second-chance points per miss... only Greg Oden was better at getting his own rebound and converting. It's a nice stat, and a good example of Wright's subtle contributions.

* Morrow-Is-Awesome update: he's currently fourth in the NBA in both eFG and TS%, as well as third in three-point percentage. Get this gentleman some more shots, please.
